Founder and CEO, AppHarvest
Jonathan Webb, founder and CEO of AppHarvest, is a Kentucky native turning his dream of creating a high-tech farming hub in Appalachia into reality with AppHarvest. The company, which was publicly listed on Nasdaq in February, combines conventional agricultural techniques with today’s technology to grow produce in some of the largest controlled-environment agriculture facilities in the world and provide good jobs for Central Appalachia.
Before founding AppHarvest, Webb worked with the U.S. Department of Defense on one of the largest solar projects in the Southeastern U.S., to ensure that the military’s hundreds of installations develop resilient on-site power generation and receive 20% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2025. While living in Washington D.C. and developing these sustainable energy farms, Webb was also researching high-tech greenhouses in the Netherlands. This helped foster his vision for AppHarvest.
